Event location details

Be A Scientist Zone

Flowers Building, Imperial College London

Have you ever wondered what heart rate variability (HRV) is?

Head to the Heart Heroes exhibit to find out what it can tell us about how our bodies respond to stress, movement and relaxation.

Roll the giant dice and get given a movement challenge—which could be anything from energetic jumping jacks, to calm breathing exercises. As you try each activity, you’ll measure your own HRV and watch how it changes in real time, chat to Imperial scientists and help them shape their future research.

Along the way, you’ll learn what HRV means, why it appears on many smartwatches and fitness trackers, and discover how you can "train"' your heart rate variability, just like you can train your muscles in the gym!
