Enter the Underground Adventure Zone to explore the world beneath your feet.

Discover a subterranean world, home to burrowing animals, sprouting seeds and vast, interconnected fungal networks. Meet researchers to learn about these animals, plants and fungi through games, hands-on activities and crafts. Join Earthbeat, an underground silent disco where you can dance your way through the sub-surface ecosystem.

Delve deeper as rocks reveal the secrets of long-extinct fossilised creatures, along with the minerals and metals used in everything from technology and buildings to food and even toothpaste. Feel a fossil and talk with geologists about why these natural resources matter, where they come from, how much we need for today’s and tomorrow’s technologies, and how they can be extracted responsibly.

The ground itself can be unpredictable and pose challenges to engineers. Explore how vibrations in the earth can affect bridges and buildings and watch (and feel) quicksand being made. The Underground Adventure Zone is full of fun, discovery, and hidden wonders.
