The Aero Zone brings together staff and students from Aero to celebrate 100 years of Aeronautics at Imperial. You’ll get the chance to immerse yourself in the full spectrum of aerospace research areas, from testing of advanced composites and using wind tunnels to study aerodynamics, to showcasing prototype spacecraft and the future of spacecraft plasma propulsion.

There are plenty of hands-on activities – face the challenge of controlling a helicopter and visualise the invisible by watching how air flows over your hand in one of our wind tunnels. Plus, you can “see” the air come out of a popping balloon in slow motion and test lightweight aerospace materials to breaking point. Experts will be on hand to explain how it all works and there’s plenty for younger children to do, including a set of bespoke Aero Zone ‘badges’ to collect to proudly show their participation in these exciting activities.

This activity is suitable for children age 12+.
