Lighting the Way: Quantum Light for Future Tech

Event schedule details
Saturday 17 & Sunday 18 June
12.00-18.00
Event location details
Goethe-Institut
Come and play with quantum light with expert physicists! Together, we’ll wonder at the nature of information in the quantum world and discover how this translates into cutting edge technologies.
The Imperial College London Optical Society brings multiple experiments to explore for all age categories - from young ones taking their first steps in science to adults curious about the nature of our world.
Our doctoral students will be more than happy to show you around the intriguing world of quantum mechanics. Our youngest visitors will discover the fascinating properties of light with magic stripes, rainbow peepholes, liquid crystals or holographic sunglasses, and will get to do their own physics experiments. For our older guests still young in spirit, our team will show you how to write and destroy information with light and explain how this can be used in new quantum technologies. Play with a quantum eraser and find how quantum computers are made!
The curious will witness a first-hand demonstration of quantum mechanics, with an imaging system that makes the invisible visible and has been featured at quantum technology shows around the world.
