“When you enter the lab, you’re encouraged to separate the person that you are on the outside from the scientist doing the research. That philosophy starts to break down when you’re not a straight, white, cis man, when your identity is not only one you’re unable to strip away, but one you’ve fought proudly to display.” #
Kailash Ramlaul, Kate Holmes, and James Kavanagh have at least two things in common: they’re all doing PhDs at Imperial, and they’re all part of the LGBTQ+ community. In this panel discussion, the three students will discuss their experience of being LGBTQ+ in science, the need for representation, and the experience of queer joy in seeing others like you and in accepting yourself.
