About the performances
El Chamuyo - This quartet performs a wide sweep of Argentinian tango music, ranging from golden era of the 1920s and '30s, through to the tango nuevo masterpieces of Piazzolla, and on to a few contemporary composers. While respecting the tradition, El Chamuyo also takes this repertoire as a starting point for improvisation, blurring the boundaries between tango and jazz in exciting and innovative ways.
Nostalgia - In 1951, “TASPO” from Trinidad & Tobago made history at the Festival of Britain as the first steelband to perform internationally. Their legacy inspired the creation of the UK's oldest steelband, Nostalgia Steelband, in 1964. Nostalgia advanced steelpan’s local and global influence through innovative performances, conferences, and community health initiatives.
Imperial College London Gospel Choir - This lively, exciting Choir has been running for over 10 years. Having performed at the Great Exhibition Road Festival last year with a mesmorising performance expect bigger and better for this group this year on the Bandstand!
STROMA Folk Music - STROMA is a folk collective from London specialising in dynamic tunes. Featuring classic and new folk music from the Scottish, Irish and English traditions, presented on acoustic instruments with a striking contemporary edge.
Las Adelitas - Formed in London in 2013 this unique band was born out of the desire to shatter stereotypes within the traditionally male-dominated genre of Mariachi. With powerful vocals and skilled musicianship, they create unforgettable performances full of passion, energy, and cultural pride.
Mangrove Steelband - The Mangrove Steelband, formed in 1980, is one of Europe’s leading steel bands. The band was born out of the vision and determination of Trinidadian’s living in the Notting Hill area in a quest to introduce the culture of Steelband and Carnival to the local young people of their community, thus ensuring the Caribbean art forms were handed down from generation to generation.
Ismaili Centre - One Voice was created to celebrate the cultural diversity within the Ismaili community, and hopes to bring people together through music, whilst honouring its cultural heritage.
Johanna Burnheart - Working with the Royal College of Music, Johanna Burnheart is a dynamic violinist known for her powerful and emotive performances. Blending classical training with innovative style, she captivates audiences with her unique sound and genre-defying work.
Brixton Chamber Orchestra - The Brixton Chamber Orchestra's Street Band brings vibrant, live music to the festival, blending classical and contemporary sounds. Experience a performance that celebrates the joy of music and immerse yourself in their sound.
Sugar Kings - From the Salons of pre-revolution Havana, the Sugar Kings present the gloriously authentic sounds of Son Montuno, Guaracha, Salsa, Bolero, Cha Cha Cha, Mambo and Afro-Cuban jazz, served with a ray of Cuban sunshine.
